Ah, a good, affordable OLED TV<\/a>. The white whale for many a cinephile, finding a TV that does the technology justice without breaking the bank has long been something of a pipe dream. <\/p>\n

However, Samsung’s latest entry-level model makes a solid case. The S85H is a neat entry point to the world of OLED, and is also one of the cheapest new options \u2013 especially now the 55-inch model is down to \u00a31199 at Richer Sounds<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This is the lowest price we’ve seen so far, dropping from the previous low of \u00a31259 we spotted only three weeks ago. <\/p>\n

The S85H sits in the same family as the S99H<\/a>, which we declared to be the best OLED Samsung has ever produced. A very fine pedigree indeed.<\/p>\n

However, with the S99H costing over a \u00a31000 more at the time of writing, the S85H has a much more palatable price and is a good entry point if you’re upgrading to OLED for the first time.<\/p>\n

Brightness is particularly good for an entry-level OLED, which will be a boon if you’re watching in a room with lots of ambient light. <\/p>\n

“Switching to Pan<\/em>, our standard peak brightness stress test due to its atypical 4000 nits mastering, it\u2019s immediately clear that the S85H burns brighter than previous entry-level OLEDs we\u2019ve tested and its main rival, the LG B6,” our Samsung S85H review<\/a> reads. “The setting sun offers a wider range of reds and oranges that show up as pure white on its rival.”<\/p>\n

Upon further comparison with the B6, we found that the colours of the S85H were a tad bombastic, but it was the TV we were drawn to during a screening of F1: The Movie<\/em> thanks to the picture\u2019s solidity and three-dimensionality.<\/p>\n

The specification is also impressive for the price, with Samsung’s ever-reliable Tizen platform packed with apps including Netflix<\/a>, Amazon Prime Video<\/a>, Disney+<\/a>, Apple TV<\/a> and more. The latest-gen version is easy to navigate too, with a content bar that automatically curates based on your watching habits. <\/p>\n

There’s plenty of gaming features too, with four full-spec HDMI 2.1 inputs <\/a>(even some OLED flagships only have two), each capable of carrying a 4K\/120Hz signal, as well as VRR and ALLM. <\/p>\n

HDR10+<\/a>, HDR10 and HLG<\/a> are all supported on the HDR front, with only Dolby Vision missing. That’s hardly surprising, however \u2013 the format is absent from all Samsung TVs, including pricier flagships such as the S99H.<\/p>\n

The audio, however, lets the S85H down. The 2.0 channel, 20W, Dolby Atmos<\/a> system offers a reasonable sense of direction and separation, but the lack of bass is immediately apparent. You’ll want to invest in a soundbar or sound system for movie watching, but for normal daytime viewing the Samsung should suffice on its own.<\/p>\n

If you’ve got a bit more of a budget, we’d recommend looking at mid-range OLED options such as the LG C6<\/a> and Samsung S90F<\/a> for a little more nuance, extra finesse, and a more natural picture overall.<\/p>\n

But if you’re very much looking at entry-level, the Samsung S85H is one of the top options right now. It’s a brand-new 2026 OLED that’s a cut above most similarly-priced rivals, and is now 20 per cent off at Richer Sounds<\/a>. <\/p>\n
